Solar Panel Thermal Performance Mapping

Radiometric thermal imaging identifies underperforming panels, hot spots, bypass diode failures, and soiling patterns across entire arrays in a single flight — far faster and safer than manual testing. Deliver actionable data to O&M teams without taking the system offline.

  • Identifies underperforming cells before they compound quarterly revenue loss
  • Full-array coverage without scaffolding, rope access, or manual panel testing
  • Pinpoints failing cells for targeted replacement — not blanket guesswork
  • No system shutdown required during the inspection flight
  • Thermal report delivered within 48–72 hours of completed flight
  • Full-array thermal mapping in a single pass
  • Hot spot, bypass diode & mismatch detection
  • Radiometric data with actual temperature values per panel
  • Georeferenced thermal orthomosaic overlay
  • PDF assessment report with flagged anomalies

Thermal Roof Moisture Assessments

We fly systematic grid patterns over residential and commercial rooftops, capturing every surface with the Matrice 4TD's dual sensors. RGB documents existing conditions; radiometric thermal reveals moisture intrusion, heat loss, and substrate damage invisible to the naked eye. The RGB pass is conducted in daylight for maximum image quality; the thermal pass is conducted post-sunset, when the roof has shed its daytime heat and wet substrate reads as measurable thermal contrast. Both passes are coordinated as a single engagement — typically the same evening or on consecutive days. All thermal findings are read and interpreted using formal thermographic methodology.

  • Thermal data interpreted by a certified infrared thermographer — not just flown and forwarded
  • High-resolution aerial imagery of the full roof surface
  • Eliminates ladder and fall risk on every preliminary assessment
  • Documents pre-existing conditions before a claim — protects you in disputes
  • Finds hidden moisture that walkover inspections regularly miss
  • Faster assessments let you quote more properties per week without more crew
  • ITC-certified thermal interpretation produces court-ready, defensible findings
  • Radiometric thermal overlay — moisture & heat-loss mapping
  • Measurements, annotations & assessment report (PDF)
  • Insurance- & adjuster-ready deliverable package
  • Delivered within 48–72 hours of completed flight, weather permitting
  • Georeferenced orthomosaic map available on request
  • Basic Visual Inspection (RGB only, no thermal) also available at $295 intro / $340 standard — ideal entry point for new roofing contractor clients
  • Certificate of Insurance available on request

Combined Services for Maximum Value

Several of our most-requested workflows combine RGB, thermal, and 3D data in a single coordinated engagement — more comprehensive than any single-sensor service and priced below what you'd pay booking each separately. RGB and 3D passes are conducted in daylight; thermal passes are conducted post-sunset when applicable.

FAQ

Commercial Questions

A manual walkover inspection identifies visible surface damage — what's already broken, cracked, or obviously wet. Thermal imaging after sunset identifies moisture intrusion that hasn't surfaced yet: wet substrate holds heat longer than dry areas and appears as distinct thermal contrast. It finds the problem before the ceiling stain, before the callback, and before the claim dispute. You can document a 10,000 sq ft roof from the air in one dusk pass with no ladder exposure, and the thermal report shows exactly where moisture is — not where a technician guesses it might be.

The thermal flight pass is typically 20–40 minutes for roofs up to 10,000 sq ft. The RGB documentation pass is separate and similarly timed. Processing, annotation, and report preparation add 24–48 hours after the completed flight. For most jobs you'll have a deliverable within 1–3 days of booking, depending on weather and scheduling.

Standard deliverables for roof assessments: a PDF report with annotated thermal and RGB imagery showing moisture locations, aerial stills of the full roof surface, and raw image files. A georeferenced orthomosaic map (.TIFF) is available on request. For construction and 3D work: a georeferenced orthomosaic and 3D model file. All deliverables are delivered digitally to a secure link within 48–72 hours of the completed flight.

Yes — and this is one of the strongest use cases. Our thermal findings are interpreted by an ITC Level I sUAS Certified Infrared Thermographer, which adds professional credibility to the data. Timestamped, georeferenced imagery with annotated findings has been used in claim documentation, pre-claim condition surveys, and dispute resolution. Many adjusters specifically request thermal documentation because it provides objective, defensible evidence of moisture location that a written walkover report cannot.

Weather reschedules are always at no charge. Thermal roof inspections are best conducted after sunset in dry conditions — rain, heavy wind, or extreme heat reduce thermal contrast and image quality. We monitor conditions and will proactively contact you to reschedule if the flight window isn't viable. Rush rescheduling within 4 hours of a new appointment incurs a +$50 fee; standard rescheduling is free.

Yes to both. For property management firms with multiple properties, volume pricing and commercial account agreements are available — see our pricing page for tier details. For insurance carriers and adjusters, we provide COI documentation on request, deliver adjuster-formatted reports, and can coordinate directly with your claim workflow. Net-30 billing is available for qualifying commercial accounts.

Yes. We schedule recurring flights — typically weekly, biweekly, or monthly — to document a project from groundbreaking through completion. Each visit produces a georeferenced orthomosaic and updated 3D model, giving owners, lenders, and project managers a consistent visual record of progress over time.

Yes. $1 million per occurrence meets most standard vendor requirements, but higher liability limits are available for qualifying commercial projects upon request — just let us know your requirement when requesting a quote.

Yes. We hold an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, an ITC Level I sUAS Certified Infrared Thermographer certification, and carry $1 million in commercial general liability insurance. A Certificate of Insurance is available on request for GC, property manager, and insurance carrier requirements.

Standard roof assessments include a PDF report with annotated findings and raw imagery (.JPG), delivered to a secure client portal within 48–72 hours of completed flight, weather permitting. Georeferenced orthomosaic maps (.TIFF) are available on request. Solar, construction, and 3D modeling projects are scoped individually — just tell us what you need in the quote form.

Yes. Roofing contractors and adjusters with regular volume qualify for tiered discounts (10–20% off) and consolidated monthly invoicing. Contact us to discuss a commercial account.

Thermal detects surface-temperature differences. Wet roof substrate appears as cool anomalies; failing solar panels show as hot spots. Our radiometric sensor records actual temperature values in every pixel — not just a color image.
